99 Year old selfie

Above is selfie of 13 year old Grand duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia. The selfie is from 1914 and is 99 years old!!

Anastasia wrote to her father about it

Oct.28, 1914, 
”…I took this picture of myself looking at the mirror. It was very hard as my hands were trembling…”

This is beyond exciting for me! Ever since I first saw the movie 'Anastasia' back in 1997 I have always been fascinated with that story. What happened to Anastasia? 

As a little girl, I truly believed that the film was 100% real. It all seemed so romantic. Falling in love and eventually finding her long lost grandmother. Little did I know that the true story was beyond anything like the film. The true story of the Grand duchess Anastasia is anything but romantic. As I got older I began searching for informations about what really happened. What I read made me scared and so sad. Back then Anastasia's dead body had not been found. Some speculated that she actually did escape the Bolsheviks. 

In 1991 scientist found the mass grave of the Romanov family. The problem was, two bodies were missing. It was either Anastasia or her two siblings Alexei and Maria. 

In 2007 the two bodies were finally found. But apparently no one knows if one of the bodies belongs to Anastasia or Maria. 

In 2007 it was finally clear that the bodies belonged to Alexei and Anastasia. 

I encourage you to read more about this. It is very interesting and exciting! I'm sure there are some documentaries you can watch on Youtube as well. I myself am gonna spend my evening watching them.
